Jerry Jones Set to Reunite Dak Prescott With Dallas Cowboys Reject Despite $90M Ezekiel Elliott’s Premature Termination

In an unexpected turn of events, the Dallas Cowboys are reportedly closing in on a deal that could see a familiar face sprinting back to the end zone at AT&T Stadium. Breaking through the defensive line of NFL rumors, it’s been confirmed that the Cowboys are in talks to bring running back Ezekiel Elliott back into the fold. This potential reunion comes after Elliott’s premature release from a hefty $90 million contract last year.

NFL insider Josina Anderson reported that the Cowboys are meeting with Elliott’s representation at The Star in Frisco on Wednesday a day before the start of the 2024 NFL Draft which was confirmed by Jerry Jones on Thursday. This reunion transcends nostalgia; it’s about recapturing the essence of the Cowboys’ potent ground game that kept defenses guessing.

In his rookie season, Elliott led the NFL in rushing with 1,631 yards, guiding the Cowboys to a stellar 13-3 record alongside Prescott. While his production dipped to 642 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns with the Patriots last season, Jones couldn’t deny his potential, “I thought he played well the last part of the season at New England. Very well.”

With the Cowboys’ current backfield options looking as thin as a referee’s playbook, Jerry Jones might be eyeing Elliott as the missing piece to Dallas’ championship puzzle. The news sent shockwaves through the league, as the prospect of Elliott donning the star once again became palpable. For Jones, pursuing Elliott’s return underscores the enduring bond, with the owner stating, “He is always going to be loved here. The love that he has, still today, in this locker room is tremendous.”

As negotiations unfold, anticipation builds within the Cowboys’ camp. Dak Prescott, Elliott’s former backfield partner might be excited, referring to Zeke as “like my little brother, a best friend obviously” back in September. Their on-field synergy, reminiscent of a finely-tuned dance, could set the league ablaze once more.

A revitalized Elliott could reignite the rushing attack, providing stability and veteran leadership. Jones hinted at this, saying, “He would be great at any position to have around the locker room. He’s outstanding in the locker room.”

But Elliott’s potential comeback isn’t just about nostalgia; it’s about crafting a well-rounded game plan. With Zeke in the backfield, the play-calling could take on a new dimension, as Jones alluded, “We have it in our power to feel good about the running back room. Period.”

Moreover, the Cowboys’ recent draft haul, including Tyler Guyton, Marshawn Kneeland, Cooper Beebe, and Marist Liufau, reflects their commitment to fortifying the trenches. But Elliott’s addition could impact future roster decisions and the offensive game plan. His previous 6-year, $90 million extension with Dallas in 2019, including $50 million guaranteed, underscores his value when at his peak.

Imagine a scenario where Elliott’s return allows doubling down on the offensive line, building a wall to pave his bruising runs. Or his presence opens up drafting a dynamic receiver, stretching the field and creating opportunities between the tackles. Do you think Elliott’s potential return could prove to be a game-changer?
